WST TRAINING SPECIALIST

SYNOPSIS:

The WST Training Specialist is a part time (75% employee), benefitted, exempt position with a salary range of $55,247 - $84,321 based on experience, qualifications and hours worked (75% employee is paid at 75% of what a full time employee 

would be paid).    This position coordinates the logistical and equipment needs for training courses taught by the Alabama Fire College’s Workplace Safety Training and Hazmat programs as well as assists in curriculum development and

instruction of the training courses.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·        Promote, plan, coordinate and teach classes at AFC campus, AFC Regional Training Centers and host agencies (in and out of state)

·        Coordinate and schedule adjunct instructors for Hazmat and WST courses, including preparation of travel requests and other administrative documentation

·        Set up, breakdown and support classrooms and field exercises for classes

·        Research specifications, gather quotes and oversee purchase and/or rental of equipment and supplies for training courses,and facility upkeep

·        Develop curriculum, instructor materials, handouts and other items for hazardous materials, confined space rescue, hazardous waste worker and related training courses in a manner to ensure an effective learning experience

·        Participate in the planning of effective long-range goals for the department

·        Oversee the loadout of trailers and vehicles with class materials, audio/visual equipment, exercise and demonstration items for all classes

·        Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the mission and goals of the Fire College

·        Participate in WST facility maintenance and upkeep

·        Ensure registration and testing paperwork for classes is submitted on time

·        Coordinate transport and delivery of vehicles and trailers to support field classes (instate and out of state)

·        Maintain a high level of competence and expertise in the teaching field or subject area (s) assigned

·        Maintain confidentiality


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Participate in AFC staff meetings and functions, including those at WST and AFC Tuscaloosa Campus

·        Support AFC classes as instructor, exercise controller, safety officer, test proctor, evaluator and other roles as needed

·        Represent AFC at conferences, workshops, grant meetings, ad hoc committees and other functions as needed

·        Research and respond to requests for information, guidance and resources from trainees, staff and other AFC stakeholders

·        Be able to work flexible and alternative schedules as needed to accomplish organizational goals

·        Perform other duties as requested by AFC administrators


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Bachelor’s degree required

·       3-5 years in emergency services, occupational health and safety, OSHA compliance, or related field required

·        Fire Instructor II or 5 years of training development and delivery required

·        Current, valid driver’s license and safe driving record required

·        Experience driving trucks with trailers required

·        Self-starter with proven ability to perform multiple tasks with minimal direction required

·        Effective oral and written communication skills required

·        Proficiency in work processing, presentation, spreadsheet, and database programs and basic computer operation required

·        Basic knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations and NFPA and other professional standards required

·        Must have or be willing to obtain ASAP a U.S. Passport for out-of-country travel


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Graduate degree in public health or related field preferred

·        Professional credentials such as CIH, CSP, CHMM or CIT preferred

3-5 years of industrial safety experience preferred
