Finance Specialist

The Finance Specialist will assist the Finance Director in areas of audit, budgetary process, grant reporting and with general finance and accounting duties.  This position will cross train for all functions of the Finance Department and act as backup for any of those positions as needed.  Must be able to deliver accurate and timely reports in a deadline driven environment.

This position is a full-time, exempt, benefited position with a salary range of $50,932 - $80,590, based on experience and qualifications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with annual external audit
  • Assist with Examiners of Public Accounts audit
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of Bookstore daily sales and bank deposit preparation
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of multiple bank accounts
  • Responsible for the maintenance of vendor files and supporting documentation
  • Assist with processing of weekly check run
  • Responsible for he creation of requisitions and purchase orders in the Database and Quickbooks
  • Act as purchasing agent/contract negotiation for the organization
  • Assists with invoicing in Quickbooks
  • Assists with processing of payments
  • Responsible for recording accounts receivable receipts
  • Maintain knowledge of accounting practices applicable to the Alabama Fire College
  • Comply with applicable fiscal policies of the Alabama Fire College and laws of the State of Alabama
  • Liaison effectively with representatives of other agencies and organizations
  • Must be able to work effectively and efficiently under deadlines


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES BASED ON ASSIGNMENT:

  • Assist with federal grant reporting and uniform guidance compliance
  • Assist in preparation of internal financial statements
  • Assist with the maintenance of Regional Training Center tuition credit accounts
  • Act as the contract and billing liaison for DOD and industrial customers
  • Responsible for the maintenance of insurance policies and productions of requested documents
  • General accounting duties as assigned
  • Preparation of payroll AJE from external processor
  • Assist in Budget Request and Operations Plan entry in STAARS
  • Actively and creatively participate in assigned committees and special projects
  • Maintain confidentiality and security
  • Perform other duties as assigned


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years experience in accounting related position required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field required


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in Quickbooks preferred
  • Audit experience preferred
